The Chinese new year is approaching, and of course the much anticipated CCTV Spring festival Gala. The preparations are in full swing and performers had their first full rehearsal with an audience on Monday. Led by film director Feng Xiaogang, the show’s creators promise to introduce more new faces and fresh elements to the most watched TV gala in the world.
Starting at 2pm sharp on Monday afternoon, the 4-hour rehearsal featured songs, dances, magic and acrobatic shows, cross talk and comedy sketches, along with some well-kept secrets now labelled as "creative shows". The line-up of gala hosts also includes a new member - actor Zhang Guoli.
Among the other first timers is singer-songwriter Hao Yun, who has just written a new song commenting on group texting spring festival messages. The idea was quickly approved by the gala’s directors.

As a renowned indie artist with a growing reputation, Hao Yun also wrote a new tune for actor Huang Bo, who will be performing in the gala as a singer.
Meanwhile, several top contestants from reality shows including "The Road to the Spring Festival Gala" and "The Voice of China" are also performing a group number.
Usually the set list for the gala is modified according to audience feedback, so let’s hope Li Qi will straighten up soon and be ready for the next full rehearsal.
